April certaiinly has a lot happening. I love children's poetry and I enjoy having a whole month to celebrate it. I'll be posting a Poet Spotlight series this month on the blog. We also have some Poetry Break STory Times happening at the library this month.

Happy Birthday, Betty MacDonald!


Betty Macdonald was born today 103 years ago. She is most famous for her adult novel The Egg and I which was made into a movie of the same name in 1947. She also wrote the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series for children. Please join me in wishing Betty a happy birthday.

Happy Birthday, Wanda Gag & Ezra Jack Keats!



Wanda Gag & Ezra Jack Keats have both had prolific careers as picture book authors and illustrators. Gag is most famous for her Millions of Cats which received a Newbery Honor Award. Keats' The Snowy Day won the 1963 Caldecott Medal. I hope you'll join me in celebrating their birthday.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!


Dr. Seuss is the beloved author and illustrator of many books including The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

He was born today 107 years ago. March 2nd in recognized as Dr. Seuss Day and as the National Education Association's Read Across America Day. For more info on Read Across America, click here.
